Ian McLean


Ian obtained his Master's degree in Architecture 2002 from the University of British Columbia. He graduated in the top of his class, his thesis winning the John Gaitenakis award for sustainable design. Ian became a registered member of the Architectural Institute of BC in 2009.

In 2001, Ian became an owner and partner in the Design-Build firm Maison D'Etre. Under his design guidance, Maison D'tre won several Georgie Awards for their residential projects.. Ian left Maison D'etre in 2006 to focus solely on his architectural career. His experience as an owner and partner provided him invaluable insight into the importance of clients needs, as well as the design and construction process.

Ian began working with Don Stuart Architect Inc in 2003. He has been very involved in the design and documentation of a number of residential projects including Residences 1 and 2, as well as a several commercial projects, notably renovations for both a fitness club and a lounge/restaurant in Vancouver.

Sustainable design has been a consistent focus of Ian's work since graduation, and he has incorporated sustainable qualities into many of his projects. He is dedicated to the practice of architecture with a deep commitment to developing high quality design. Ian is a member of the Canadian Green Building Council and an accredited LEED professional.

Ian enjoys traveling and has spent time in Italy, Egypt, Greece and Hong Kong. He also enjoys photography, cooking, and urban exploration.
